Hard Work
June 30, 2008

Today is “PO Day 13″ (Post operation)… that means I am in my 13th day of the hardest work of my life.  The operation was a breeze.  Apparently I was totally cooperative, never did anything to interrupt the surgery and felt no pain at all.  Now I am in RECOVERY.  Everyday is relentless.  You don’t [...]

Discharged!
June 27, 2008

Dad just sent me a text message that, as of 5:00pm today, he and Mom are in the car on the way home. I know they are very happy about this. How nice it will be to be in their own house again.

A very good day 10
June 26, 2008

Today Mom and Dad received great news. The pathology report on Dad’s lymph nodes came back “clean.” What a long way we’ve come since that day almost a month ago when the endoscopic ultrasound suggested that the cancer had spread to those lymph nodes. We are so grateful that was not the case.
It appears things [...]

I’M BAAACK!
June 25, 2008

DEAR FRIENDS AND FAMILIY AND OTHER BLOGGER READERS,
I REALLY WONDERED WHEN OR IF THIS DAY WOULD COME. WHEN WOULD I FEEL THE STRENGTH AND CLARITY OF MIND TO GIVE YOU SOME WORDS DIRECTLY FROM ME. i AM SO GLAD IT IS HERE.
FIRST, VERY SIMPLY, GRATITUDE IN MY HEART TOWARD MY GOD, MY WIFE, [...]

Day 8
June 25, 2008

I believe Dad now has all tubes removed except for the feeding tube in his stomach and his IVs. His doctors want to see a little more progress in his digestive function before letting him go, so he’s in the hospital for at least another night. When I called the room, he and Mom were [...]

Day 7
June 24, 2008

I think Dad would tell you that this was his best day yet. Around 11am this morning, Dad took the swallowing test, which he passed. This means that Dad could start slowly swallowing clear liquids. He has enjoyed Dasani water (his favorite bottled kind), apple juice, lemon jello, chicken broth, and a popcicle–all in small [...]

Day 6
June 23, 2008

Things are fine here. Recovery is not easy but seems to be progressing. Dad took two long walks. Tomorrow is a big day. Dad has his swallowing test, which determines whether he has healed sufficiently to start eating again. I’ll let you know how things go tomorrow night.

Day 5
June 22, 2008

There’s not a lot to report, which is a good thing. Dad took his longest walk ever this morning, even taking a ride in the elevator to another floor. The hospital is especially quiet on the weekends, so we’ve enjoyed not having to wait on elevators and things like that. Dad’s energy level continues to [...]

Day 4
June 21, 2008

Today appears to confirm that yesterday was indeed a “transitional” day. Dad continues to do well. He finally moved to a regular room late this afternoon. Tobin even made a short visit to Grandpa’s new room. He was quite excited to go to “Grandpa’s doctor” and kept telling Grandpa to “feel better.”
Some have been asking [...]

Day 3
June 20, 2008

Today started with Dad continuing to have significant pain near the site of one of his chest tubes. Then sometime around early afternoon, the pain was suddenly gone. We think the tube had a catch in the connection site or that Dad was experiencing some kind of spasm. Dad has also been having success with [...]
